The Institute of Cell Biology

The Institute of Cell Biology (Cancer Research) founded in 1975 –

abbreviated in German to IFZ – is one of the major players in

international biomedical research.

In the search for the molecular causes of cancer, the basic biomedical research carried out during the past 30 years with the aid of advanced genetics and cellular biology has resulted in momentous discoveries about the structure and functioning of healthy and malignant cells.

The IFZ was the first institution of its kind established at a medical school in Germany. The IFZ makes an outstanding showing in any national or international comparison. It has received special recognition as a result of the numerous research projects it has carried out. These have invariably been rated as excellent by the scientific community and by high-ranking bodies such as the German Science Council and the Dichgans Commission. The more than 400 articles published in internationally recognized scientific journals have helped to cement this solid reputation.

One of the key ingredients in the IFZ's formula for success has been the close involvement of clinicians at an early stage of all its efforts to develop innovative lines of research and new methods. The IFZ is clearly not an "ivory tower research center:" many of its research projects have evolved as a direct result of clinical experience and have to prove their worth in a clinical setting.

DeSEK in turn works closely with the IFZ

With your donation or endowment donation you help us to support the research activities of the prestigious IFZ – so that we will be able to offer cancer patients even better treatments in the near future and to definitively win the battle against cancer in the distant future.
